2011 News

The Chicago Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will award Francine Friedman, CFRE, the Benjamin Franklin Award at AFP's 35th Annual Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on May 20, 2011 at the Hilton Chicago. The Benjamin Franklin Award is given to a fundraising professional who has attained significant achievements in a long career and is looked to by the profession as a role model for all fundraisers.

Francine Friedman brought her talents and expertise to the National Hellenic Museum to assist us in defining our vision, history and needs and to present them in a comprehensive manner. She interwove classical  quotes, historic contributions of Classical Greece to Western Civilization and incorporated recollections of the contemporary immigrant experience to create a 12 page brochure which showcased the culture and the needs of the Museum.  This brochure remains a valuable asset and is used as a marketing and fundraising tool to this day.

Francine conducted a Major Gifts workshop for our Board of Directors. Through step-by-step examples drawing from her broad experience in fundraising, she helped our board members understand the importance of their role in the process of identifying, cultivating and solicitating major donors for our organization. And she shared her knowledge in an engaging way that really motivated the board.

Francine planned and successfully coordinated our agency's first major fundraising Gala. She created a working timeline, led sponsorship efforts through writing tailored letters, organized our live and silent auctions, wrote keynote speeches and program book copy, researched venues, worked with vendors, and even went the extra mile to personally obtain a number of auction items. The result was a very successful Gala, raising substantial funds and obtaining new friends for our organization. And through it all, Francine fostered an atmosphere of team-spirit and fun among our staff and volunteers.
